Questions I have: 1. What made them leave Germany in 1858?
2. Did they meet on the boat or did they leave Germany together?
3. With no known relatives in US why settle in St. Louis?

  1. Hey Drew- you beat me to the info on John and Mary immigrating together. I found that today and thought I'd made a major breakthrough. Just to contribute, the correct spelling of Mary's hometown is "Geeste." John was from Bischofspool.

By the way, I was searching around on the St. Louis Genealogical Society website, and it there's a record of a Johann Brinkel at St. Joseph's Church (available to members only). I'm going to try and get ahold of it soon.
